"Blackhawks are a new group from Philadelphia comprised of members from local bands Nude Beach and Bananas Symphony. Together, they make psych-infused indie rock reminiscent of Spacemen 3-- a fitting comparison, considering one of their two tracks to date, "More Rainbows (Come Down Softly)", is a Spacemen 3 cover itself. Their other song, "Sunday Morning", is especially gauzy, as sheets of static rush under soft percussion and spare guitar lines. - Pitchfork
Blackhawks is the newest project to emerge from the unsettlingly prolific Philidelphia based songsmith Dan Svizeny as well as Adam also of Nude Beach and Yohsuke of Bananas Symphony. Following a cover of Spacemen 3's "More Rainbows (Come Down Softly)", "Sunday Morning" is their first original jam to surface as outrightly, proudly melodic as anything Svizeny's numerous excellent projects have cooked up, it's a gorgeous dose of bluesey, blood-shot psych-pop that has transit in its blood and sounds earthy and loose: the sort of dustbowl, whiskey-passing hymn of warmth you imagine zen hobos of the imagination have huddled around in the back of golden glowing pick-up trucks burning up the road to sanctified nowhere for the best-forgotten part of a century. -Transparent
Once you go Blackhawks you never go back, and I'm a self-diagnosed addict. Not only is the production timeless, but these pop-drenched jams have such a wash to them that can fit the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. After posting "More Rainbows Come Down Softly To My Soul" last week, "Sunday Morning" popped up on the MySpace, and by the looks of it the tune is lifting spirits all over the blogodrome! Dan, Adam, and Yohsuke, you guys are suhweet go see doomwave pioneers Nude Beach in Brooklyn this Saturday at Don Pedro's with Lil Daggers, Ava Luna, and Wild Yaks. -FMLY
